Dhaka: Bangladesh's civil aviation ministry today decided to resume domestic passenger flights on a limited scale from June 1, more than two months after imposing a suspension on almost all international and domestic flights to contain outbreaks of COVID-19.

"We have decided to resume the domestic flight operations on a limited scale initially on flights to and from Dhaka to Chattogram, Sylhet and Saidpur," M Mohibul Haque, senior secretary to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, said today.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab) Chairman Air Vice Marshall M Mafidur Rahman said, "Suspension on flight operations on international routes, however, will continue until June 15.

"We will decide on resuming international flight operations after June 15," he also said.

The announcement came a day after the government said it was not extending the ongoing closure beyond May 30.

The government on March 16 suspended regular flight operations on all domestic and international routes except for China to contain COVID-19 outbreak.
