Taking suo motu cognizance of  September 2 Noakhali gang-rape incident, a high court bench in Bangladesh on Monday asked authorities to show cause why they should not be directed to take the appropriate legal and departmental actions against the officials of the Begumganj police station.

The officers in charge of the Begumganj police station initially failed to act on the complaint. The high court gave two weeks time to the authority to explain.

The incident sparked massive outrage, when the video of the incident went viral in the country; prompting the action by the Government. Four of the accused were arrested on Monday.
