Bhutan establishes diplomatic relations with Germany

Bhutan and Germany on Wednesday established formal diplomatic relations by signing an agreement in New Delhi. 

Walter J Lindner, German ambassador to India who is also accredited to Bhutan, and Bhutanese envoy to India, Major General Vetsop, signed the formal agreement in a ceremony held at the Royal Bhutan Embassy in New Delhi. 

The German Ambassador tweeted, “Today Bhutan and Germany established official diplomatic relations.  

Both countries have normal consular relations with each other since 2002.  Until now, Bhutan had diplomatic relations with only 52 nations and now Germany becomes the 53rd nation.  

Germany has remained a trusted partner of Bhutan in areas such a climate policy, cultural conservation, and international organizations.
