Whatever its objective on the border dispute with India, China has been unable to achieve it. Analyst Amulya Ganguli suggests that China is caught between two worlds – medieval and modern. While its military hardware encourages it to dream nostalgically of its prowess as the Middle Kingdom, the inability to pursue its expansionist agenda because of the resistance offered by what it considers lesser powers, makes China aware of the limitations of operating in the modern period.
