A video conference was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on Tuesday on the opportunities for Indian companies in Sri Lanka in the post-pandemic economic situation. Head of Economic & Commercial Wing, High Commission of India, Ms. Suja K. Menon, gave an overview of India-Sri Lanka economic partnership. She pointed out that India-Sri Lanka relationship has been marked by frequent summit-level meetings and regular and close contact at all levels.

Ms. Menon underlined the fact that Sri Lanka moved to an Upper Middle Income Country last year, as classified by World Bank. Sri Lanka also has commendable social indicators. She noted that the economic difficulties caused by COVID-19 crisis across the globe call for concerted efforts.

She noted that some of the Indian companies, who have their presence in Sri Lanka for many decades, have been pillars of support for the Sri Lankan economy, bringing in investments and technology and skillsets and creating local employment opportunities.

Likewise, many Sri Lankan companies have also marked their robust presence in the Indian market. She urged Indian companies to strengthen existing partnerships, while also looking for new opportunities for collaboration.

In addition to FICCI representatives, many Indian companies participated in the video conference.
