At least 17 people, including members of the Afghan National Police, were injured on Wednesday morning when a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb in Kandahar province of Afghanistan, Ariana News reported. 

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement the incident happened in Police District 11 of Kandahar city. The suicide bomber approached a security check-point with an explosive-laden car when he detonated it, injuring six police personnel. 

Reports say the attacker wanted to target a police station in Ayno Mina areas of the district. No group has yet taken responsibility for the attack.

Since the intra-Afghan talks started in September, the Taliban has stepped up its attacks on Afghan Security forces. Casualty among civilians is increasing since then.

Another known pattern that emerged especially after the signing of the US-Taliban deal is that the Taliban stopped claiming suicide bombings. 

The European Union and the United Nations had also called for an immediate ceasefire in the country at the Afghanistan Conference 2020 on Tuesday.
