As clashes with the Taliban insurgents continued in southern provinces, the Afghan government deployed more forces in Kandahar, TOLOnews reported quoting the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

The fightings in Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, and Uruzgan have been going on since last month. In recent weeks, the insurgent group mounted attacks in three main cities in Kandahar, Zabul, and Uruzgan.

Earlier on Friday, Afghan forces cleared Kandahar’s Arghandab district of the Taliban. The district lies in a very strategic location in the southern region. Clashes in Arghandab district caused a displacement of the civilian population there and damaged many houses.

Afghan Army Chief, Gen Yasin Zia is commanding the troops in the south. Clashes in Helmand have reduced significantly. Panjwai and Zherai districts in Kandahar are still witnessing fighting.
