The intra-Afghan Doha talks, which were earlier scheduled to start from Wednesday, have now been delayed for two days, TOLOnews reported citing sources from both, the Taliban and the Afghan government team. 

The report claims, citing sources from the Afghan government negotiation team, that the Taliban has sought two days time to discuss the proposal sent by the republic team while the sources from the Taliban said both teams asked for time to deliberate more on proposals. 

TOLOnews in one of its reports claimed that the Taliban had sent a 22 points proposal for inclusion in the next round of intra-Afghan talks. On the other hand, the government team sent a proposal containing 29 points for agendas. 

“We hope that the Taliban consider the problems of the country and show flexibility and reach an agreement so that we become united,” Qazi Mohammad Amin Waqad, former deputy head of the High Peace Council, was quoted as saying by TOLOnews.

The Taliban proposal, reports say, includes a formation of the National Council of Religious Scholars to regulate the country’s education system in line with Islamic teachings; freedom of the press, rights of women and men should also be according to Islamic values.

These demands are likely to become major hurdles points as the republic team has continuously been pitching for protecting the gains of the last 20 years.
