At least eight members of Afghan Security Forces were killed on Saturday in a car bomb explosion in eastern Nangarhar province, TOLOnews said. The Taliban later claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident happened in Shirzad district of Nangarhar, the provincial governor confirmed. The members were all part of a civil order force unit. The Civil Order Force operates under Afghan National Army.
However, the deputy leader of the provincial council said casualties were much higher. He said at least 14 security personnel were killed in the incident.
On the same day, two IED explosions were reported in the capital Kabul. One civilian was killed and two wounded in the incident. Kabul police confirmed that one of the attacks targeted a financial officer who was posted with Afghan security forces.
In a separate incident in Maidan Wardak province, nine people were killed in clashes that took place between the security forces and armed local militias. Afghan Ministry of Interior confirmed the incident.
The incident took place on Friday when armed men, loyal to a local commander, resisted the deployment of new district commanders.
Seven among the dead were militias loyal to the local commander, two Afghan security members, and the remaining one a civilian.
