The explosion happened in Police District 5 of Kabul on Sunday morning, putting three nearby cars on fire, said Ferdaws Faramarz, the deputy spokesperson of the interior ministry.
“The terrorists today carried out a terror attack in PD5 of Kabul city. Children, women, and elderly people are among those wounded. Homes around the area have been severely damaged,” Tariq Arian, the spokesperson of the interior ministry said in a tweet.
Condemning the attack on the member of parliament, Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the Afghan parties, involved in the conflict, should accelerate their efforts to achieve "lasting peace" in the country. He also expressed his concern over rising violence in the country.
Issuing a statement, the Afghan presidential palace condemned the attack and asked the Taliban to stop their “illegitimate war” against the Afghan people. The statement also asked the insurgent group to stop damaging the public infrastructure.
Recently, the Taliban targeted bridges, highways, and other key segments of national infrastructure.
In another incident, an officer of the Afghan National Police was killed on Sunday afternoon when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Jalalabad district of Nangahar province.
No group, including the Taliban, has taken responsibility for the attacks.
