The World Bank on Saturday approved a total of $85 million in grants to Afghanistan from two different two funds of the International Development Association (IDA) dedicated to Afghanistan which are managed by the World Bank, TOLOnews reported.
The statement released by the World Bank said the first $50 million grant from IDA will be used for improving Afghanistan’s water, sanitation, hygiene, and institutional support (A-WASH). The grant is part of the $200 million funds aimed at improving these basic facilities in the country.
Another $35 million fund, approved by the World Bank, is for the second additional financing of the Citizens Charter Afghanistan Project ( CCAP ) which would be utilized for improving the delivery of core infrastructure, emergency support, and social services to communities through strengthened Community Development Council.
Under second additional financing, CCAP will expand the scope of service delivery to ten new cities in Afghanistan, continue to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, provide employment through public works, and continue to strengthen gender equality.
The total assistance packages from these two grants are around $393 million and will be released by the World Bank from time to time, based on results and monitoring of the execution of projects.
