Bangladesh has imposed lockdown in seven districts from June 22-30 to control a spike in Covid-19 cases. The lockdown will come into force in Narayanganj, Manikganj, Madaripur, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Gopalganj and Rajbari districts from 6 am on June 22, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said on Monday.
No vehicles, except those carrying goods, will be allowed on the streets in these districts, The Daily Star reported.
Meanwhile, the virus claimed the lives of 78 people in 24 hours till 8 am (Bangladesh time) on Monday, as the daily positivity rate stood at 19.27 percent, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The total number of deaths in the country has reached 13,626 and the death rate stands at 1.59 percent.
At least 4,636 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 856,304 added the release.
