Sri Lanka received the hospital complex as a full grant from the Chinese government at the request of former President Maithripala Sirisena during his visit to China in 2015.
The hospital complex spans an area of 16 acres and the design has been influenced by the ancient architecture of Sri Lanka and China. The hospital was built at Rs. 12 billion within 30 months, ColomboPage reported.
The hospital has modern facilities for kidney transplants and can accommodate 200 in-house patients. The intensive care unit has 20 beds.
