The Maldives’ Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported 39 confirmed positive cases of the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 13,198  in the small island nation that is an international high-end tourist destination, Sun news reported.

The active cases remain at 877. Most of the fresh cases, 37, cases alone came from the greater Male region; the rest two reported from other regions.

Meanwhile, 57 patients made recovery in the last 24 days. The active cases came below 1000 for the first time in recent weeks.

In the last week, a total of 204 positive cases were detected; with the highest,39, reported on Sunday. Around 71 peoples are admitted to different hospitals across the country.

In September, the country recorded less than 100 cases per day and the number remained below 50 per day in November.

Despite the decrease in infection rate, the HPA cautioned citizens to strictly follow the health guidelines. The country largely managed to contain the virus and the situation helped the Maldives in the revival of its tourism industry.

The Maldives recorded an impressive recovery in tourism in recent weeks.
