From just a hundred tourists on the day it reopened its border on 15 July, the Maldives’ tourism industry achieved a new milestone on Sunday by welcoming more than 6000 tourists.
Minister of Tourism Abdullah Mausom took to Twitter to show his graduate for the success. He tweeted, “New recond of tourists' arrival on a single day since the Maldives reopened borders. It’s #sixThousand (6000) plus tourists today.” He also thanked industry players, related authorities, and tourists for it.
The surge in number recorded partially due to increased numbers of airlines starting their operations to the Maldives. Two Ukrainian airlines- Ukraine International Airlines and Azur Air Ukraine- just started their operations to the Indian Ocean archipelago.
Since reopening, December saw the highest arrival, over 77000, in a single month. The country has already surpassed its target of 100,000 arrivals for 2020 after its reopening.
