The provincial government of Province-2 in Nepal is all set to start an affordable public transport system, reported The Himalayan Times on Tuesday.
With the government acquiring five buses in the first phase, the state will soon operationalize these buses on routes in the next few days, informed Jitendra Sonal, physical development minister of Province-2. The state aims to provide services below the rates currently being charged by private operators.
The affordable public transport system in Nepal remained a distant dream, as the government has failed to step into the sector until now.
In a similar move two weeks back, the Nepal government announced the formation of Kathmandu Valley Public Transport Authority Infrastructure Development Board. The board is tasked to develop an integrated transport system that includes buses, taxis, light monorail, cable cars, and sky rail as the modes of transport.
Commuters all across the country face problems such as overcharging, crowding, and the absence of proper transport. The government aims to address these issues through an integrated transport medium.
