All You Own are Your Words

All you own are your words, Ashok

All you own are your words, Ashok,
And the deeds you daily do,
since that is all the wealth you have,
Dispense them wisely too.

The stars carry the sunlight with them,
As does the moon too:
Why then do you the daylight miss,
And you the darkness rue.

What is joy and what sorrow
Why shed the silent tear?
Who knows what tomorrow holds,
Who knows who will then be here.

The river's waters are never the same,
And so it is with the morrow,
Different, perhaps, from today,
Why linger then with unwanted sorrow.

 And in it’s place
You may well find,
A happier heart
That's also kind.

Nothing lasts forever, 'Ashok'
So why would you be sad?
The dawn of day may well take away
The sorrow that you had.
