Pakistan's Punjab government has decided to conduct the trial of the suspects arrested in the brutal lynching of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana in jail to “maintain the law and order situation in the province”.  So far the police have arrested 131 men, of whom over 30 have been declared prime suspects. They were identified via CCTV footage and mobile data.

The jail management has been instructed to ensure all arrangements for the trial are completed on time. The police have been directed to complete the case fiiles at the earliest, Samaa reported.

On Friday, a special prosecution team from Lahore reached Sialkot. It met the police and visited the Rajco Industries factory, the site of the lynching on the Sialkot-Wazirabad road. The team went through the CCTV footage collected by the police as well.

Priyantha Kumara was tortured, beaten to death, and then set on fire by an Islamist mob of more than 800 people over alleged blasphemy accusations. His widow, who has got two small children, has been quoted as saying that she is looking for justice from both the Sri Lankan and Pakistani governments. Kumara had been working in Pakistan for almost a decade.
