Pakistan has recorded a 30 percent increase in fresh infections of novel coronavirus cases ever since the authorities lifted most restrictions in late last month, reported Dawn. Health experts in the country warned the government of an impending third wave of infections if it doesn’t change its course. 

The Command and Control Centre - the country’s top body to manage the Covid-19 crisis- last month lifted all restrictions on commercial activities, reopened schools and other educational centers with full capacity, allowed marriage, and audience in sports matches. 

Since then, the trajectory of infections is on rising. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical Association requested the government to put restrictions again to avoid the country from the third wave of the Covid-19, which a lot of other countries are already witnessing. 

The association also pointed out that some players in the PSL cricket league recently caught viruses. And, the overcrowding in the stadium could further spell trouble for the country. 

“The incubation period of the virus is around seven days, so cases started increasing one week after lifting the restrictions and we fear that cases may further increase in coming days if the masses don’t strictly adhere to the SOPs,” an official from the country’s health ministry was quoted as saying by Dawn.  

The decision to ease restrictions was taken in a hurry, without due deliberations, and purely based on economic considerations, he added.
