Pakistan’s peace overtures need worldwide recognition: Pakistan Army

The world needs to recognize Pakistan’s consistent peace overtures, said General Nadeem Raza, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Army. He also added that Pakistan was united against the scourge of terrorism.
The remark came in the backdrop of the recent development in the region where Pakistan has been seen pushing, at least at the surface, for peace in Afghanistan and also with India. Raza was addressing a passing out parade of cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, according to a report in the Daily Times.
In his address, he mentioned the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir in India. “World must recognize Pakistan’s consistent peace overtures and take notice of the human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Earlier, the US government has praised Pakistan’s “positive role” in pushing the Taliban to the negotiation table with the Afghan government for finding a political solution to the conflict in the country.
However, some experts also believe that Pakistan- which has so far refused to end the Taliban sanctuaries in the country- has not exerted enough pressure on the Afghan insurgent group, making them intransigent to any political compromise.
Also, the real intent of its peace overture to India remains unclear after the Pakistani cabinet had recently reversed a decision on partial resumptions of trade with India.
