Six officials of Peshwar’s Khyber Teaching Hospital in Pakistan were suspended on Monday after an inquiry report found them guilty of negligence that led to the death of at least seven patients in the hospital, Dawn reported.
The inquiry report also stated that some of the officials failed to perform their duties while others were ill-equipped to handle the crisis situation. On Sunday, around seven people who were admitted to the hospital passed away due to low pressure in the oxygen supply line.
In the preliminary report, prepared by a three-member committee, the service manager of the plant had informed the members that he had received a call from the ward regarding low pressure in the oxygen supply line. Upon receiving the complaint, he visited the plant and found the plant manager absent from there.
The committee also found that some of the staff deployed there in the hospital were not trained enough to handle the operation of the emergency supply line. The service manager though shifted around 13 patients to an emergency ward when they failed to contact the plant manager.
The head of the Medical Teaching Institution was also suspended following the inquiry report.
