Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and UK’s Chief of Defense Staff General Sir Nick Carter together made a visit to Afghanistan and held discussion with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul.
  
This is the second such meeting between Pakistan and Afghanistan leaders, at least in the public domain, facilitated by the United Kingdom. Lt. General Faiz Hameed, Pakistan’s intelligence chief, was also present in the meeting.

A statement released by the Afghan president’s office said they discussed the Afghan peace process, security relations with Pakistan. Ghani stressed that the role of Pakistan in the peace process is crucial, and it could help reduce violence in Afghanistan. 

He said the two countries have no option but mutual respect and good neighborly and economic cooperation, according to the Palace statement.
  
Afghan Vice-President Amrullah Saleh was also present in the meeting. After the meeting, Saleh, a known Pakistan baiter, said in a tweet that they had an open and frank discussion with General Bajwa and the ISI chief. 

“If a knot can be opened & untied by hands use of teeth won't be necessary, the Afghan proverb says. Afg is entering into a new era of relations with the world. Role of the region & the neighbors key than ever. We are sincere & serious from our end. Awaiting reciprocation.” Saleh tweeted.

Bajwa also met with Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation. During the meeting, Bajwa stressed finding a solution through negotiations.  

Abdullah said the Taliban wanted to impose a military solution.
