The Sri Lankan government will increase the number of National Schools to 1000 while improving the existing schools to provide equal facilities, a statement issued by the President's Media division (PMD) said.

The decision was taken at a meeting held yesterday at the Presidential secretariat chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa with the participation of the newly appointed State Ministers.
 
The meeting discussed issues in the education system and the decision to increase the number of National schools and to appoint District Educational Committees for the Development of school network in each district was taken.
