Peliyagoda Wholesale Fish Market was closed with immediate effect after 49 people have tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday (21).

The Kelaniya Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office said PCR tests conducted on Monday have confirmed that 49 persons working at the Peliyagoda Wholesale Fish Complex were positive for the COVID-19 infection.

As the Peliyagoda Fish Market was identified as a common place visited by several people who were found to be COVID-19 positive from various parts of the country, the Epidemiology Unit had notified to randomly select 100 people working in various fields in the fish market and conduct PCR tests.
