The World Happiness Report 2021 released by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network ranked Pakistan higher than India. Pakistan was ranked 105 out of 149 countries covered in the list. India, on the other hand, was ranked 139 on the list while Bangladesh, 101, faired better than both India and Pakistan.

Finland topped the list for the fourth consecutive year. Other countries like  Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, and Norway followed Finland.

China was ranked 84 in the World Happiness Report. People in war-ravaged Afghanistan are the most unhappy, followed by Zimbabwe (148), Rwanda (147), Botswana (146), and Lesotho (145).

The United States, despite being the richest country in the world, was ranked only 19th. The report noted that the countries with a high level of trust fared better; however, it saw no decline in self-reported wellbeing.

The World Happiness Report is a survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 149 countries by how happy their citizens think themselves to be. The countries are ranked on the basis of questions from the Gallup World Poll.

The results are then correlated with other factors, including GDP and social security.

The report also stated that mental health became a casualty of both the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Societies having women in the lead or power showed a significantly higher level of mutual trust, it noted.
