Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday held a meeting with visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering and stressed on developing infrastructure to enhance bilateral trade with Bhutan, reported Dhaka Tribune.
Bangladesh, which is a crucial trade partner of Bhutan, had signed a Preferential Trade Agreement with the latter in December last year.
During his meeting, Tshering also asked Hasina to grant full-term or multiple entry visas to Bhutanese students studying in Bangladesh. Hasina assured him action on the matter and directed his officials to facilitate it.
The two leaders also discussed a bilateral or tripartite agreement to build a hydropower project in Bhutan. Hasina offered the country’s waterways to expand bilateral trade with Bhutan.
India also provides Bhutan access to its land routes and waterways to boost its regional trade.
Tshering, who was in Bangladesh to participate in the program marking the golden jubilee of its independence, also held a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin.
