In an implied criticism of the Modi government, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the deadly second wave of COVID-19 has been spurred by the negligence shown by all sections of society, including the government, after the first wave of the pandemic.
"We are in this crisis because, whether it was the government, administration or public, everyone turned complacent after the first wave ignoring warnings from doctors," Bhagwat said at the 'Positivity Unlimited' series of lectures organised by the RSS, the ideological torchbearer of the ruling BJP..
"Now a third wave could be here, we have been told. So should we be afraid? Or adopt the right attitude to battle and be victorious against the virus?" he said as part of the inject confidence and positivity among people as they fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the current situation, the nation must focus on the future so that the people and the government will be ready for it by drawing lessons from the current experiences.
He urged the people of India to develop the confidence to tackle a potential third wave by learning mistakes made after the first wave.
“We have to remain positive and exercise precautions to protect ourselves from contracting Covid in the present situation,” he was quoted as saying in the media.
The RSS chief drew a comparison between the current situation in India to that of England during World War II.
Bhagwat also quotes a statement that, he said, was always kept on the desk of the then British prime minister Winston Churchill read, "There is no pessimism in this office. We are not interested in the possibilities of defeat. They don't exist".
In the same way, Mohan Bhagwat said, in this crisis in the country, “We can’t give up on courage. We need to also have a steely resolve.”
