India recorded over 400,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health released data on Saturday.

During the same period, 3523 deaths due to the virus were also registered.

The total number of new cases registered during the period is 4,01,993.

The death toll due to the virus now stands at 211,853, IBNS said.

In order to tackle logistical issues in transporting liquid medical oxygen to various hospitals in the country,  the Modi government on Friday decided to set up jumbo container-based Covid hospitals near oxygen producing plants.

The home ministry also said that most of the industries have been producing gaseous oxygen in order to increase the number of oxygen-supported beds amid a surge in COVID-19 positive cases. Besides import of cryogenic tankers, efforts are being made to raise production of these tankers in India, IBNS said quoting official and other agencies.

A senior official said that steps are also being taken for effective oxygen movement, as the production line is predominantly available in the eastern part, but demand is higher in the central and the western parts of the country.
