Meanwhile, 1321 people died due to the deadly virus in the past 24 hour.
The total death toll due to the disease now stands at 391,981 in over a year.
However, Recovery Rate from the disease has now increased to 96.61%.
Maharashtra. the country's most industrialised state whose capital is Mumbai, the nation's business and entertainment capital, on Tuesday reported 10,066 new COVID-19 cases, which is up from 8,470 cases on Tuesday.
Besides violation of Covid safety norms, the fresh rise in cases has been attributed to a new variant of the Delta strain, causing concern to the government.
The Union Health Ministry alerted and advised Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh regarding the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 being found in some districts in these states.
Last week, experts in Maharashtra said the third wave of Covid in the state, which had been the worst in the first two waves of the disease, could arrive earlier than expected.(SAM)
