Male: Authorities have discovered eight new cases of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Maldives.

The reveal was made by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) via Twitter on Saturday afternoon.

As such, included among the new cases are all Maldivian nationals, patients 130 - 137.

This raises the total number of confirmed cases to 137.

This comes at a time sources from Narudhoo island in Shaviyani atoll reported to the authorities that an island resident has tested positive to the disease after returning from Malé City.

However, HPA is yet to confirm this matter to the public.

Authorities have been working tirelessly to step up their efforts in sample collecting and testing for the disease, since cases have begun spiking.

It has also been revealed that the government is working on “community surveillance” through which those at risk in different regions of the country will be tested.
