National Terrorism Response Plan in operation in Maldives

With UK's assistance, the government of Maldives has started moving forward with the National Terrorism Response Plan (NTRP) to tackle and respond to threats of violence, extremism, and terrorism in the country, Rajje tv reported. 

The first meeting was taken place in the President’s Office on Sunday and was attended by cabinet members, security officials, heads of other agencies, and officials from the UK high commission.

NTRP is formulated to enhance cooperation and synergy between different security agencies of the country in responding to incidents of terrorism and violent extremism. In the first meeting, deliberations were held on protocols, provisions, and other means of strategic responses. 

The Maldives’ President Mohammad Solih stressed on high priority to keep the country safe from violent extremism and terrorism. He also described the NTRP as the first multi-agency document that helps the country to fight this menace. 
 
After the meeting, the UK high commission tweeted, “We appreciate the determination from [the] government of [the] Maldives in dealing with security challenges. The openness and willingness to collaborate on this and many other priorities/shared interest such as climate change sees the relationship going from strength to strength.”
