Male: The Maldives on Saturday recorded 81 new cases of COVID-19.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) during its daily press conference said 83 people tested for the virus since 0000hrs on Saturday, bringing the total number of infections recorded in the island nation to 1672. The number of active cases is 1264.

The centre said 159 COVID-19 recoveries have been recorded, which increases the total number of recoveries to a promising 401. Five fatalities have been recorded thus far.

According to NEOC, 1291 people are currently at isolation facilities while 1478 people are in quarantine. The centre said the Health Protection Agency (HPA) is collecting a large number of random samples everyday to better assess the current situation in the Maldives. 23,860 samples have been taken to date, and around 800 samples are tested each day on average.
