Veteran Maldivian movie star Koyya Hassan Manik died at the age of 67 while undergoing treatment at the Dharumavatha Hospital in Male’ after being infected with COVID-19. He died last week.

Manik entered the entertainment industry in 1989, and starred in a number of movies as well as TV dramas, according to SunOnline International.

Manik featured in many famous local movies such as E Bappa, Dhanmalhi, and Maadeh Neiy.

Social media was flooded with news about his death, with messages of condolences for his family pouring in.

His death marks the second COVID-19 death in the Maldives within less than 12 hours, officials said. Maldives has so far reported 60 COVID deaths.
