Adelaide Festival Centre, Australia will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a presentation on October 28 titled "Ahimsa: Meditations on Gandhi" featuring original pieces from one of Australia’s finest jazz composers Sandy Evans, inspired by the Indian freedom fighter’s writings and philosophy of non-violence.
Mixing Indian classical with contemporary jazz, Gandhi’s words have been translated into Sanskrit by Chris Whiteman and Vasudevacharya to form the foundation of the captivating compositions at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Joining Sandy on stage would be inspirational artist Sarangan Sriranganathan on sitar and highly esteemed and versatile tabla player Bobby Singh in an innovative pairing with the inventor of the air sticks (or ‘electronic drums’) Alon Ilsar.
