Nepal’s ruling party NCP has postponed an important secretariat meeting today that could have witnessed another face-off between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his political rival in the party, former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal, The Himalayan Times reported.

Now the meeting will take place on 5 December. Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa first announced the meeting was delayed by one hour and then said it would take place at 2 pm at the PM's official residence.

However, in another tweet an hour later, Thapa informed that the party meet has been postponed to 5 December. He cited the PM’s busy schedule for the delay.

PM Oli and his party co-chair, Dahal, both have been at loggerheads over the leadership of the party. In a report presented during the November 13 meeting of the party, Dahal accused PM Oli of working against the principles and beliefs of the party.

Responding to Dahal, PM Oli presented a counter-report on November 28 secretariat meeting and accused Dahal of “wrongful intentions.”

Under the current party system, both Oli and Dahal are serving as chairperson of the party since 2018.
