The NCP factions, led by former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Nepal, on Friday took out protest rallies across capital Kathmandu, protesting against Nepal K P Sharma Oli’s 20 December move of dissolving the lower house of parliament.

According to a report on The Kathmandu Post, the group took out several rallies and then converged at Bhrikutimandap area in the capital. Dahal, Nepal, and other senior leaders of the factions addressed their supporters at the end.

Earlier in December last year, the faction had organized similar rallies in  Kathmandu.

Two factions of the Nepal Communist Party are rallying their supporters but for totally different purposes. Prime Minister Oli has been holding rallies, hoping that the elections would be held on time in April and May.

While on the other hand, Oli’s political opponents are still protesting against the house dissolution move. Given the Supreme Court is hearing a slew of petitions, Oli’s rivals are still hoping for the undoing of the December 20 move.

The three-judge bench, led by the Chief Justice, is hearing multiple petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Oli’s last year move.
