Perennial, A Hapless Word
Perennials, things that last a long time
Perennials, things that last a long time
The “long”, better, left undefined
For, who knows what Providence
Has ordained and/ or divined.
Green is grass, but not evermore
For, browns and yellows compete,
All three together contribute
The full circle, do they complete.
Why do we ask or look for
Perennials, I wonder,
Something different from ourselves
From above or from down under.
Is it the silent wish of the mind
The yearning for Eternity,
The longing and love for life itself
Knowing fully, the nature of mortality.
That which comes and goes
Is transient, ephemeral, we well know
The Caravan in the Desert
The Camels on the go.
The stars they see any night
Are never the same again,
They’ve moved a bit, shifted around
Perennial, a hapless word then.
