After recent controversy over elections in Pakistan,  Prime Minister Imran Khan hA made a pitch for using the electronic voting system for future elections in the country, saying it would make the process “transparent and smooth.”

Making a reference to former US President Donald Trump’s accusation of election fraud, he said, “A transparent voting system debunked the former US President Donald Trump’s allegations of electoral malpractice.”

Pakistan will also put in place the same system to ensure fair and transparent polls in the country. The government will introduce electoral reforms and the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) to ensure fair and transparent elections in the country,” Khan was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

However, the voting system in the United States varies from state to state, some of them still rely on the paper ballot.

Khan also said the move will help counter the fake claims political parties make after losing elections. The technology, he said, will also enable million of overseas Pakistanis to vote in elections in Pakistan.

The move came after the Pakistan Election Commission last month declared the voting in National Assembly 75 null and void, the commission cited the fraud in polling for ordering a re-polling in the constituency.

The decision left the PTI red-faced, and the party openly expressed its dissatisfaction over the conduct of the Election Commission.
