Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said electronic voting was the only way to ensure transparency and prevent rigging in the elections, according to a statement from the PM Office.

The premier's comments came during a briefing in Islamabad on the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the polling process, Geo tv reported.

PM Imran Khan reiterated his commitment to ensuring transparency in the use of EVMs

"Overseas Pakistanis are assets of the country, they must be involved in the election process …  electoral reforms, electronic voting, and voting process for overseas Pakistanis should be completed soon," he told officials concerned.

On June 10, the National Assembly cleared the Elections (Second Amendment) Bill which pertains to a fair, free and transparent election through the utilization of technology and modern gadgets.

The bill also aims to grant voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.
