Restrictions imposed on the movement of people and vehicles across the open India-Nepal border have been creating problems and causing the black marketing of goods,  according to The Himalayan Post.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, both nations have imposed significant restrictions on the movement of people across the India-Nepal border.

In a meeting organized by District Coordination Committee Saptari in Rajbiraj, Kishor Kumar Yadav, chairperson of Nepal India Youth Friendly Association said, the prolonged sealing of the border is promoting black marketing and people from the Nepal side had to suffer from it.

"People are crossing the border point while only vehicles are halted. The sealed border has affected revenue collection as well,” he said demanding the restriction should be eased.

There is a need to ease restrictions as the virus spread slows down, said Parmanand Yadav, the chairman of Rajgadh Municipality corporation. Nepali farmers are finding it hard to procure chemical fertilizers from India, Yadav added.

Some of the lawmakers present in the meeting assured the participants that they would draw the government’s attention to the problem.
