Sri Lanka Navy launched a search and rescue operation on Tuesday to find out fishermen of an Indian boat that sank in Sri Lankan waters on Monday following a collission with a Sri Lankan patrol boat that attempted to apprehend the fishermen for illegal trespassing.
According to a report published in The Daily Mirror, Sri Lankan Navy launched an operation on Monday to arrest Indian boats illegally fishing into Lankan waters. In an attempt to evade arrest, one of the boats manoeuvered aggressively, resulting in a coalition with the Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Attack Craft.
The coalition caused damage to the SLN craft, however, the craft managed to return safely to harbor. Following the incident, the navy launched a search and rescue operation to find out the fishermen. The resume team also comprises diving specialists, ships, and crafts, the Navy said in a statement.
Sri Lankan Navy also informed Indian authorities about the incident. It is evident boats attempted aggressive manoeuvers and such actions are being repeated time and again, the Navy said. The Navy further added it had informed Indian authorities in the past also to make fishermen aware of vulnerabilities attached to such actions.
