Sri Lankan cricket great and former captain Kumar Sangakarra condemned the racial abuse recently faced by the Indian players in Australia, demanding actions against the culprit, Daily Mirror reported.
“I read what happened to Indian players in Australia in the last two days. Racism in any country in any form is not acceptable. Culprits should be punished and stern actions should be taken against them,” Sangakkara, a celebrated wicketkeeper, was quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.
Addressing a media conference through Zoom, Sangakkara however added he personally never faced racism during his time in the play. His teammate, Muttiah Muralitharan, had faced racial slur on many occasions. Muralitharan even missed the 2004 Australia tour for the same reason.
Just days back, Cricket Australia had to tender an official apology over the treatment meted out to Indian cricket players in Australia. Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, also came down hard on Australian fans over their racist abuse of Indian players.
