It all started after a Twitter account by the name of Katherine George, claiming to be a traveler, praised Pakistan, its scenic beauty, and its culture. All that was fine, but when the white woman claimed in her account that, "no one in the world respect women as much as Pakistani men", Twitter in Pakistan went crazy.

No one actually believed it. And eventually, it came to light that the account was actually fake.

The photo on the account turned out to be of a Polish woman Aleks Mroz, who was alerted about the fake Twitter account, displaying her photo. Mroz later clarified on her Instagram that someone impersonated her on Twitter by using her pictures without her consent and she does not have a Twitter account, according to The Express Tribune. She, however, agreed that she did visit Pakistan, but never made a Twitter account.

The said ‘fake’ Twitter account was made in February 2021 with a following of over 11.2k. Apart from praising Pakistan and its culture, one post that attracted much attention in Pakistan over the past few days was a post in which 'Katherine' shared a picture with a few men in the backdrop and said "no one in the world respect women as much as Pakistani men. Very respectful and humble."

Soon her tweet went crazy viral, with many calling her out, and sharing on social media a totally opposite image of Pakistani women and her status in society.

But it didn’t end here. ‘Katherine’ started taking on people who reported that her account was a fake.

"I only tweet positive news about Pakistan and also share positive news by various bloggers who visit Pakistan. What is my crime that all people are using stupid innuendos and going gaga over these positive tweets that are not targeting anyone?"

Mroz in her Instagram post later clarified, "To be clear: I said this post was FAKE and my photos were used without my consent and I asked for REPORTING the account of Katherine George.

She also wrote: “I cannot speak for Pakistani girls and women here who know their country best. Women fought gender-based crimes and violence and I as a foreign woman has no right to state such clear statements about what Pakistani women know best. I will never speak for Pakistani women."

Dawn newspaper in its article summed up the entire controversy as: “Katherine is most likely a Khalid."
