INDIA - CHINA: AN ‘UNCERTAIN AND PROBLEMATIC’ FUTURE

There is speculation that China’s President Xi Jinping may come to India in the second half of this year to attend the BRICS  leaders’ meeting. The optimism comes after China expressed its “support” for India hosting this year’s meeting and recent discussions between the two Foreign Ministers. With the disengagement process complete in Pangong Tso, the study discusses other areas of concern in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh; a view that the ‘flimsy’ peace and tranquillity  structure has been rendered obsolete; making sense of the troubled relationship - realpolitik perhaps the most prudent option for India, need for a new or renovated framework, if US-China ties are a key factor in shaping India-China relations and the conclusion that uncertainty is bound to continue.
