J&K witnessed strong protests against the government amending land laws to open up urban or non-agricultural land for purchase by outsiders, permit contract farming on agricultural lands, provide for set-ting up of an industrial development corporation etc. The study presents expert views that are critical of the Centre creating a fait accompli on the ground; forcing a particular path of development upon people; and an alternate view of demographic change in Kashmir.
