Construction work on the first section of the Central Expressway in Sri Lankan began today (15), the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said.

The embassy said in a Twitter message that the construction of the Central Expressway Section I from Kadawatha to Meerigama formally started this morning.

The embassy said construction would create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs for Sri Lankan workers.

The Metallurgical Corporation of China is the main contractor for the project funded by a concessional loan from Exim Bank of China.
