Sri Lanka's Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Sajith Premadasa requested the Minister of Mass Media and Information not to touch the entire media including social media.

The Leader of the Opposition requested the government not to shut the people’s mouths and block their right to freedom of expression.

Commenting on a statement made by Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella that social media should be registered, the Leader of the Opposition said the government was preparing for a repression of social media under the guise of registering social media and that it was implied by the statements made by the Media Minister.
