At least 15 members of the Sri Lankan parliament come in close contact with an MP who has tested positive for COVID-19
At least 15 members of the Sri Lankan parliament come in close contact with an MP who has tested positive for COVID-19. The speaker of parliament is now consulting health authorities whether to convene the parliament session next week or not.
Daily Mirror reported that at least 30 MPs have been asked to isolate themselves. The MP who tested positive Sunday attended several parliamentary sessions. Parliament officials scanned the CCTVs installed in the compound for contact tracing.
The speaker is also exploring the possibility of testing all MPs; a decision regarding it is likely today.
On the same day, Kumarasiri Hettige, the political affairs coordinating secretary of Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapakshe, also tested positive for COVID-19. However, the office of the prime minister made clear that the prime minister hasn’t come in close contact with him.
His office said, he had last met him ten days ago. Three of Rajapkshe staff that have come in close contact with him have been asked to self isolate themselves. The staff too haven’t come in contact with the prime minister.
