The Sri Lankan government has eased the nationwide travel restrictions which had been imposed earlier to contain the spread of the coronavirus but warned people, saying the next three weeks would be crucial for the country’s COVID-19 situation, reported Daily Mirror.
General Savendra Silva, the Army Chief of the island nation, who also heads the national Covid task force, urged people not to misuse the lifting of the travel restrictions as the health authorities raced against time to normalize the rapid spread of the new variant of the coronavirus which was now airborne.
He said, “The next three weeks are very crucial so we urge everyone to be very cautious and not misuse the travel restriction being lifted. We urge everyone to corporate as we need to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
Shops and businesses would now be allowed to open, however, they were asked to operate with minimal staff. Night curfew will still remain in place.
