Colombo: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the country has managed the coronavirus pandemic while several developed countries struggled under the pressure.

“We commend the services of Sri Lanka’s health sector,” Rajapaksa said on Saturday after declaring open the new Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Tangalle Base Hospital.

Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and Shiranthi Rajapaksa were among those present for the opening ceremony.

“I believe Sri Lanka’s health service can stand tall in the face of the world, because of their untiring efforts and sacrifices,” the Prime Minister said.

The new Cardiac ICU was constructed after renovating an abandoned building which used to belong to the Old Tangalle Prison, with financial support from a local businessman.
